Entangled Photons Overview

Technology Introduction:

Entangled quantum systems have unique, almost magical, properties, and are a core tool for quantum operations. Entangled pairs retain an inherent connection even if they are physically separated, allowing for operations on one’s quantum state to instantly affect the other. Despite the counterintuitive implications, entangled states are real and have been used in dozens of laboratory experiments. In particular, entangled photons are a work-horse of quantum communication experiments. Unlike most other entangleable particles, photons are well isolated from external interference and can propagate over long distances in standard low-loss optical fiber. Such properties have allowed entangled photons to enable a number of important scientific experiments including the violation of Bell’s inequality and quantum teleportation over considerable distances.

A plethora of applications for entangled light have been suggested. These applications include quantum cryptography, quantum communications, quantum ellipsometry, quantum computation, and quantum microscopy. Such applications are extremely interesting and offer unique capabilities not available with classical light. However, generating entangled light is currently an experiment in itself and the lack of a commercially available entangled photon source hampers both research and product development in this field.

NuCrypt offers an easy-to-use source of polarization entangled photons in the 1550nm band. Please visit our product page to find out more about our Entangled Photons product. Please visit our contact us page to contact NuCrypt with your questions about our product.
